Saturday 4th August

We nearly made it all the way round without getting a sprinkling, it’s getting better.
We were watching a family of Sedge Warblers, probably the second brood, for about ten minutes. The young were busy calling while the parents searched for food, but if anything flew close they soon stopped, then tried catching it, including butterflies, without actually leaving the perch. They have a lot of learning to do in a very short space of time.
I placed a moth trap in the garden the other night and caught a Poplar Hawk Moth, the markings are superb see pic.
