With this warm spell there has been an explosion of insects, butterflies are emerging but no sign of the fritillary yet, young Damselflies are everywhere. We came across a very pale green one on Monday, it could be an Emerald or a White Legged, very difficult to tell as there are no markings, see photo.
Also found an Alder Fly, very similar to the Lacewing see photo, it flies a bit like a moth and when settled closes it’s wings.
There is a Great Tit nest very close to the Sparrow Hawk, and are busy feeding the young, and all the hard work could be for the benefit of the Hawks.
On the long pond there was a family of Mallard with eleven ducklings, could be the same ones we saw last week, if so they are doing extremely well.
